AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Oh the CSM people tell me they are friendly and out for the good of the people, I guess that means it must be true! The writer of this article wouldn't last 10 seconds in EVE, what a tool.
That was actually a quote from Agust H. Ingthorsson, the professional moderator that CCP brought in to handle the conference - he had 12 hours+ to watch us formally and spent a lot of time speaking with us individually during the breaks between meetings and during a celebration dinner, I'd say he definitely had enough time to establish an informed and pertinent opinion.
And as for author of the article itself, Seth IS an eve-player, has experience in significant alliance warfare and is pretty well briefed political wheeler-dealing in Eve online, and did spend a lot of time watching the meetings, socializing and relaxing with us in the evenings. He was certainly party to some high level alliance negotiations (and much discussion of current politics in-game).
On balance I thought it was a very good article of Eve online and certainly put the CSM and CCP in an extremely positive light.
On the democracy issue, this is about the disagreement we had on the CSM over whether all discussions on our private mailing list should be public alongside the formal meeting chatlogs. It came down to a 5/4 vote on the CSM in favour of keeping the mailing list private since a majority of the CSM decided we needed a place out of the public eye to handle internal administration and off-the-record discussion. Sean has his opinion, other members of the CSM have theirs - but we had a vote and made the decision. The article simply touched on this difference in approach to make some cultural comparisons that we can either agree with or debate ourselves. Anything that gets people discussing democracy and its implications is good in my book.
Hope you all enjoyed reading this and big thanks to Seth for his diligent time and research - I hope everyone can agree this was a responsible and informative article that that will work wonders for the esteem of CCP and Eve-online in the MMO industry. (And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't very happy to see my name in the New York Times - fame at last )
